Switching from a Legacy Domain to the Dedicated Domain

Dedicated Domain is a top-level unique domain assigned to your account. Every user has the different domain assigned, thus the domain is not shared with other Voluum users and there is only you who have an impact on the domain's reputation. On the other hand, the legacy domains might be used by other users what may result in getting flagged by third party services. Therefore, it is highly recommended to use the legacy domains only for tests and set up the Dedicated Domain for real live campaigns. All the domains assigned to your account are listed in the Domains tab in the Voluum's settings.

To find out more about the Voluum domains and differences between them, go to the Dedicated Domain, Redirect Domain, Legacy Domains, and Custom Domains article.

In order to move from using the legacy domain and then, set up the Dedicated Domain for your campaigns, you need to mark the Dedicated Domain as a main domain in the Voluum platform. To do so, perform the following steps:

1. Sign in to Voluum.

2. Click
the  icon (top right screen). Your account data view will show up.

3. Go to the
Domains tab. You will see all Voluum domains assigned to your account.

Voluum Info: In the Domains tab you can see all domains that are available for your account:

  • Dedicated Domains: The Dedicated Domain is assigned only to your account and dedicated for your own business needs. Because of that, there is only one Dedicated Domain per Voluum account assigned.
  • Custom Domains: The custom tracking domain allows you to track traffic only from your campaigns independently of other users. This ensures that every user takes care of their reputation and have it under control.
  • Redirect Domains: When you want to use any of the Voluum's redirect modes (Meta refresh and Double meta refresh), one of the domains from this section will be set as a redirect domain. ou can use either the default one or one of those added as a custom domain.
  • Legacy Domains: Currently, the legacy domains can be only used for testing purposes. Those domains will be soon deprecated in Voluum. You can recognize them without difficulty because they follow one of the following patterns:
  • unique_subdomain_name.trackvoluum.com
  • unique_subdomain_name.voluumtrk.com
  • unique_subdomain_name.voluumtrk2.com
  • unique_subdomain_name.voluumtrk3.com

4. Find the Dedicated Domain and click the Set as main domain button.

5. Click the Save button. Once you have done it, the domain's name will be propagated and all the links such as tracking URLs, click URLs, and campaign's URLs will be automatically changed replacing the previous domain's name to the newly defined one.

6. This step is only required if you already defined URLs for your campaign's funnel before setting up the Dedicated Domain as the main domain in Voluum. If you have running ad campaigns, you need to change and verify the following points:

6a. Links in the affiliate network's configuration:
You need to go to the affiliate network and update the tracking URLs there - replace the domain name with the newly set Dedicated Domain name.

Example
:

If you use the default Voluum domain, for example ap2hb.trackvoluum.com, for:

  • The postback URL:

http://ap2hb.trackvoluum.com/ postback?cid={clickid}&payout={payoutid}

it should be changed to:

http://prombooks-expession.com/postback?cid={clickid}&payout={payoutid}

  • The tracking pixel URL:

http://ap2hb.trackvoluum.com/conversion.gif?cid=[subid]&payout=[payoutid]

it should be changed to:

http://prombooks-expession.com/conversion.gif?cid=[subid]&payout=[payoutid]

where
prombooks-expession.com is the Dedicated Domain

6b. Lander's configuration
If the lander is used in the campaign funnel, you need to go to your lander and replace the domain name with the Dedicated Domain name in the click URL. Only then Voluum can properly handle the traffic.

Example:

The click URL with the default Voluum domain
, ap2hb.trackvoluum.com:

http://ap2hb.trackvoluum.com/click

should be changed to:

http://prombooks-expession.com/click

where prombooks-expession.com is the Dedicated Domain

Voluum Note: If you have more than one offer on the landing page, you need to replace the domain name in click URLs for all offers (multi-offer click URLs). Otherwise, the traffic would not be registered properly.

6c. Campaign's URL in the traffic source's configuration: Go to your traffic source and modify the campaign URL - change the domain name to the Dedicated Domain name.

Example:

The campaign's URL with the default Voluum domain
, ap2hb.trackvoluum.com:

http://ap2hb.trackvoluum.com/c3c523e2-045f-47f9-b8f4-aa7742bfe382?ad_id={ad_id}&camp_id={camp_id}&ad_creative={ad_creative}&keyword={keyword}

should be changed to:

http://prombooks-expession.com/c3c523e2-045f-47f9-b8f4-aa7742bfe382?ad_id={ad_id}&camp_id={camp_id}&ad_creative={ad_creative}&keyword={keyword}

where prombooks-expession.com is the Dedicated Domain
