Adding an Affiliate Network with a Predefined Template

An affiliate network enables advertisers to get access to online offers through their own affiliate programs. In Voluum creating the affiliate network is optional, however, this functionality enables you to group offers by their particular source. For example, it is recommended if you have different categories of offers in Voluum.  You can either use predefined templates delivered by Voluum or you can add your own affiliate network entity.

I. Define the Affiliate Network Entity

In order to define the affiliate network based on one of the templates available in Voluum, follow the steps:

1. Sign in to Voluum.

2. Go to Affiliate networks. The Affiliate networks view will show up.

3. Click the New affiliate network button. The New affiliate network - templates pop-up window will show up.

4. Select the affiliate network template that you want to use in your campaigns.

Voluum Info: In Voluum you might find two types of the templates of the affiliate network:

  • Templates of the trusted affiliate networks:
  • Other predefined templates of the affiliate networks:

Each predefined affiliate network specializes in specific offer types, so you should check if any of those listed fit the type of campaigns you are promoting.

5. Once you have selected the affiliate network template, click the Load template button. The New affiliate network form shows up with the uploaded template.

Voluum Info: Every time when you select the template, the following fields are prefilled with data:

a. Affiliate network name: The predefined name of the affiliate network entity.

  • You can always modify the name after selecting the template.
  • The name needs to be unique, therefore if you have already used the template and applied the predefined name, you need to change it manually.
b. Postback URL: Voluum will automatically generate a postback URL for the selected network. You need to place the URL at your affiliate network.

6. You might want to turn on the toggle to activate the following settings:

6a. Append click ID to offer URLs: With this option active, all offers created and grouped with the related affiliate network have Voluum’s click ID automatically passed in the offer’s URL.

Voluum Note: When the Append click ID to offer URLs setting is turned on, the {clickid} macro is not visible in the offer's URL itself. Instead it will be passed dynamically by Voluum when a visitor (click) is redirected to the offer.

6b. Accept duplicate postbacksSetting up the Accept duplicate postbacks option will override the default setting and, as a result, postback URLs with the same {clickid} and empty txid will not be discarded as a duplicate.

Voluum Note

By default, Voluum will not accept a duplicate postback request (conversion) if another postback request with the same click ID value was previously registered without a unique transaction ID. This avoids registering duplicate postback requests as unique conversions and therefore skewing your reporting.

When you activate the Accept duplicate postbacks setting, you change the default settings and allow to accept registration of the duplicate postback requests.

6c. Only accept postbacks from white-listed IPs: If you want to whitelist a selection of IPs for inbound postback requests, turn on this option. To add a list of IPs, enter a single IP per line.

Before setting up offers and campaigns in Voluum, it is highly recommended to find out more about the affiliate network's settings and how they might impact your tracking parameters.

7. Click the Save button. You have added the affiliate network's entity in Voluum with the predefined template.

II. Get the Postback URL

When you have saved the entity with the predefined affiliate network, you need to get the postback URL that you are going to paste to the affiliate network. Using the postback URL is a reliable method of registering conversions. To do so, follow the steps:

1. When you have saved the entity of the affiliate network, click the Copy link in the Postback URL section.

2. In general, the copied postback URL is defined specifically for the selected network. However, if you need to put additional parameters in your postback URL, paste it to any tool where you can edit and specify the URL parameters. Otherwise, you can skip this step and go to the next one.

Voluum Info: Keep in mind that the postback URL parameters should be mapped with the corresponding values defined by your affiliate network. If you have used one of the Voluum's templates all the parameters should be predefined accurately. If you want to add more of them, you need to refer to the affiliate network documentation.

If you want to use more than one affiliate network, you need to set up the postback URL for each of them.

3.  Paste the copied postback URL to the
affiliate network.

4. You have defined the affiliate network in Voluum and defined the connection between the affiliate network and the Voluum platform to be able to register conversions.

Once the affiliate network has been defined in Voluum, you need to create other entities to run your online campaigns. The following articles guides might help you with setting them up:

Frequently Asked Questions:

Have more questions about the affiliate network? You might find the answer below:

  • Do I need to add an Affiliate network entity to create a campaign in Voluum?

No, you do not need to do this. If you add affiliate network entities, it helps you to categorize offers by their source.
  • I don't use affiliate networks proposed in the Voluum's templates, what should I do then?
You can always add your custom affiliate network's entity. To learn more, go to the Adding a Custom Affiliate Network Entity guide.
  • I've noticed that a string is being added to my offer's link and I wonder what it is
When you turned on the Append click ID to offer URLs option, the {clickid} macro is automatically added to the offer's URL. Sample offer with a click ID, c384EFV6JHQODRN70575OK6UG, passed: http://my-network.com/?aff_id=1337&offer_ id=13432?subid=c384EFV6JHQODRN70575OK6UG Keep in mind that it’s important that the parameter used to pass the click ID is at the end of the offer URL’s query string when this option is active.
